
Peter Spence, born on December 21, 1962, in Birmingham, England, is a renowned reggae singer and songwriter. His musical journey began in the early 1980s as a drummer and rhythm guitarist for the band The Experts. Inspired by Jamaican harmony groups like The Heptones and The Tamlins, he transitioned to singing and joined the reggae sound system Warrior.
Spence made his recording debut with "Frivolous Woman," produced by Birmingham-based G.T. Haynes. He gained significant attention with the hit single "Don't Leave Me Lonely," released on the Greensleeves label, which earned him a Best Newcomer award. His debut album, I'll Be There, produced by Haynes, received critical acclaim and won Best Reggae Album at the Black Music Awards, where Spence was also recognized as Best Male Reggae Singer.
Throughout his career, Spence collaborated with various artists and producers, including a duet with Tippa Irie titled "Girl of My Best Friend" for Island Records. In recent years, he has shifted focus to gospel music, completing a gospel album, and is dedicated to nurturing emerging talent through his production company, Sidewalk Entertainment & DB Production Company.
