Hailing from the Caribbean’s “Sugar Island” of St. Kitts, Mykal Somer was born in the 1980s with a natural gift for song. His love for music began at a young age in the capital city of Basseterre, where his voice—like sugar—moves effortlessly from raw earthiness to refined sweetness. Distinctively a Roots Rock Reggae artiste with a sing-jay flair, Mykal draws inspiration from icons such as Bob Marley and Lucky Dube, blending spirituality and love for the Most High into every performance.
He found solace in songwriting and soon began producing his own music. In 2005, he released his debut album Element of Surprise under his label Somer Music Group. The project gained recognition in the reggae community for its substance and creativity, establishing Mykal as a rising voice in conscious reggae.
Over the years, Mykal has shared stages with some of reggae’s most respected names, including the legendary Third World Band, Luciano the “Messenger,” Jah Cure, Messenjah Selah, and Joseph Israel. He also collaborated briefly with renowned saxophonist, composer, and producer Dean Fraser. With a growing fan base across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean, Mykal Somer is set to continue spreading powerful music that uplifts, inspires, and unites.
