Biography (courtesy of Bat -Records ) : Junior Roy, born Selah Robin Nelson Morlat, is originally from Paris, France. Of Caribbean descent and born to a mother who was a selectress, he grew up immersed in Rasta culture and began embracing its values from an early age. Junior Roy started writing lyrics and singing well before the age of 10. His first appearances on YouTube date back to 2008, when he was just 12, with singles like “Wicked and Wild” and “Always.” A few years later, he was even invited to collaborate with Manudigital on a feature!
From early on, he was already deeply rooted in this culture, and went on to create a collective called Session Youth Posse. Junior Roy continued his journey with his mentor Colonel Maxwell, a veteran deejay in the French reggae scene. He was soon produced by Fury Bass, releasing his first 7-inch vinyl single titled "Babylon a pressure the youth." Since then, he has collaborated with many other labels, including I Love Sound, which is run by his mother, Selecta Katy—a pioneering and passionate advocate for reggae music.
Another key chapter in his career began around 2018, when he joined forces with Mellow Vibes (Birmingham, UK), the label of his second mentor Murray Man, who took him under his wing and helped shape his musical identity. Together, they produced several singles that define Junior Roy's unique sound.
Today, Junior Roy continues to deliver vibrant energy and reggae vibes. Performing alongside all generations of the dub movement (like O.B.F Sound System, Ashanti Selah, BAT Records), he embodies the rich fusion that reggae music has become. His melodies and harmonies show undeniable mastery, reminiscent of reggae’s golden era, while he also seamlessly incorporates elements from more modern genres like R’n’B, dancehall/afrobeats (Conscious Lover), and house music (Dub Club with O.B.F). This fusion is reflected both in his vocal delivery and the instrumentals he performs on.
